Finnish space technology company ICEYE has formally established its Indian entity- ‘ICEYE India’ in New Delhi, thus expanding its presence in India's defence and space sector. It was formally announced through a press release by the company. The development comes as India seeks to expand the role of its private industry in building a more self-reliant space and defence ecosystem.

The company said the new entity will initially focus with its immediate priority on supporting Indian defence and intelligence customers with advanced Earth observation and sovereign intelligence capabilities. It will also engage with India's wider space and defence ecosystem through technology validation, supply chain participation and local capability development.

ICEYE India will serve as the platform for the company's planned manufacturing activities in India. The company said it intends to develop in country production capabilities using local suppliers, sourcing and engineering talent for defence, surveillance and environmental monitoring requirements.

“ICEYE India means real engineering and manufacturing capability on the ground,” said Rafal Modrzewski, CEO and Co-founder of ICEYE. “We’re excited to build this together with the government and local partners and to support India as it strengthens its own sovereign intelligence capability.”

The company is also exploring partnerships with Indian launch providers, electronics and component manufacturers and other technology companies. ICEYE said its approach aligns with India's ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ objectives by building industrial capabilities locally. The move strengthens ICEYE’s footprint in India at a time when New Delhi is increasingly focusing on indigenous space-based intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities for national security.

ICEYE originally operates a large constellation of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites, which enables Earth observation in day, night and adverse weather conditions. Its satellites and intelligence services are used across defence, intelligence, environmental monitoring, insurance and emergency management.
