India, China Hold Fresh Round of Military Talks on LAC
India and China held a fresh round of high-level military talks aimed at maintaining peace and stability along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.
The 23rd round of Corps Commander-level discussions took place at the Chushul–Moldo border meeting point on the Indian side on 25 October 2025, the Chinese Defence Ministry confirmed on Wednesday. According to the Chinese MInistry of Defence, the two sides engaged in “active and in-depth communication on the management of the western section of the China-India border” and agreed to continue dialogue under the guidance of the consensus reached by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in its statement, said the talks were conducted in a “friendly and cordial atmosphere.” It noted that the meeting was the first at the general level since the 24th round of Special Representatives’ talks held on 19 August 2025, reflecting the ongoing engagement between the two sides at multiple levels.
The MEA added that since the signing of the India–China Border Patrol Agreement in October 2024, the border regions have largely remained peaceful, with both countries taking measures to strengthen bilateral cooperation. This has included the resumption of direct flights, as well as increased trade and investment exchanges, signalling a cautious yet steady improvement in ties.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to “continue communication and dialogue through military and diplomatic channels” to address issues on the ground and ensure stability along the LAC.
The latest round of talks follows Prime Minister Modi’s visit to China in August—the first in seven years—to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. During that visit, Modi and Xi emphasised that India and China were development partners, not rivals, and discussed ways to deepen economic cooperation amid shifting global trade dynamics.
While no breakthrough was announced, both nations appear to seek to consolidate recent gains and prevent fresh friction along their sensitive border.
