1. India–Algeria Joint Commission on Defence Cooperation held in New Delhi

The inaugural India–Algeria Joint Commission on Defence Cooperation was held in New Delhi on May 5. It was co-chaired by Joint Secretary Amitabh Prasad and Major General Kaid Nour Eddine, Chief of Staff of Algeria’s Naval Forces. Both sides outlined a roadmap to deepen defence ties across research and development, industry collaboration, joint exercises, training, and military medicine, further strengthening bilateral cooperation.

2. Defence Secy holds discussions with Japanese House of Representatives member

Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh held wide-ranging discussions with Kobayashi Takayuki, Chairperson of the Policy Research Council of the Liberal Democratic Party and Member of the House of Representatives. The talks reaffirmed the growing strength of the India–Japan Special Strategic & Global Partnership, with a focus on enhancing defence cooperation, maritime security, defence industrial ties, and shared commitment to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific.

3. India issues NOTAM for long-range missile test

India has issued a NOTAM for a likely long-range missile test, according to a post on X by Damien Symon. The missile is reported to have a range of 3,560 km, with the test window scheduled between May 6 and May 9.

4. INS Sunayna arrives at Yangon Harbour

The Indian Ocean Ship (IOS) Sagar, INS Sunayna, entered Yangon Harbour on May 4 as part of India’s ongoing maritime engagement in the region. The visit coincides with that of Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, underscoring efforts to strengthen bilateral maritime ties between India and Myanmar.

5. INS Sagardhwani arrives in Cam Ranh Port, Vietnam

The Indian Navy’s oceanographic research vessel INS Sagardhwani docked at Cam Ranh Port on May 5, 2026, contributing to stronger Vietnam–India cooperation in maritime security and scientific research. The visit aligns with the SAGAR vision: Security and Growth for All in the Region and coincides with the State Visit to India by Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm, adding symbolic significance.

6. MoD signs contract with BEL for Ground-Based Mobile Electronic Systems

The Ministry of Defence has signed a ₹1,476 crore contract with Bharat Electronics Limited, Hyderabad, for the procurement of five Ground-Based Mobile Electronic Systems for the Indian Army, with a minimum of 72% indigenous content. The contract, under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category, was signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh at Kartavya Bhawan-2, New Delhi, on May 5.

7. UAE signs contract for acquisition of Embraer C-390 aircraft

Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan participated in the signing of a contract for the acquisition of 20 C-390 Millennium aircraft by the UAE Air Force during the Make it in the Emirates 2026 trade fair. The agreement was signed by Dr Nasser Humaid Al Nuaimi of the Tawazun Council and Bosco da Costa Junior of Embraer, in the presence of Embraer CEO Francisco Gomes Neto.

8. First three C-295W MSA aircraft for Spain set for maiden flight

The first three Airbus C295W Maritime Surveillance Aircraft for the Spanish Air and Space Force are set to undertake their maiden flight in Seville after completing ground and paint tests. These aircraft will support missions ranging from anti-smuggling and anti-drug operations to search-and-rescue. India has ordered 56 C-295W aircraft, with 16 already delivered and the remaining 40 to be manufactured in India.
