1. India says Border Situation will Determine Trajectory of Ties with China

India’s External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated that the situation along the border will determine the trajectory of its overall ties with China. India described its border issues with China as "most serious" and asserted that maintaining peace and tranquillity along the LAC is of “utmost importance”.

The remarks came amid unconfirmed reports of aggressive posturing by Chinese troops in Arunachal Pradesh's Upper Subansiri region.

2. Senior DRDO Official Calls for Faster Defence Production to Match Global Powers

Dr BK Das, Director General of Electronics and Communication Systems of DRDO said that India’s defence ecosystem shall accelerate defence production and technological development to keep pace with global military powers. Speaking at NETRA, a national seminar on electronic warfare and mission-critical system design, he underlined the continuing push towards indigenous capability and faster industry adoption.

3. Indian Army working on 300 technology capability projects, including AI, quantum and 6G

A report from the Parliament's Standing Committee on Defence highlighted the Indian Army’s expanding focus on emerging technologies. The Army reportedly has around 300 technology-related capability projects underway, covering areas including artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, 6G, cloud computing and advanced communications.

This comes as the army marks 2026 as the 'Year of Networking and Data Centricity'. The report also mentioned a shift in the Army’s focus towards modern warfare capabilities such as unmanned systems.

4. Indian & Australian Navies hold 17th Round of Staff Talks

The 17th Round of India’s & Australia’s Naval Staff Talks were held in Sydney from 11-12 Aug 2026. It was co-chaired by Rear Admiral Sachin Reuben Sequeira, ACNS (FCI), and Rear Admiral Christopher Smith. The talks focused on Operational Interoperability, Bilateral Exercises and Training Capabilities.

5. GRSE launches second NGOPV, ‘Shruti’, for Indian Navy

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers launched Shruti, the second Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel being built for the Indian Navy. The 3,000-tonne vessel is 113 metres long, can reach 23 knots and has an endurance of 8,500 nautical miles. GRSE is building four of the Navy's 11 NGOPVs.

This marks another milestone in India's push for indigenous warship construction. The launch comes less than three months after GRSE launched ‘Sanghmitra’, the first NGOPV from the shipyard, on May 20.
