Indian Army Athletes: India’s Star Performers at The Commonwealth Games 2026

The Indian Army has emerged as the single biggest contributor to India’s successful performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Despite representing a small part of the contingent, they managed to win a significant number of medals. India sent 122 athletes this time and out of them, 20 were from the Indian Army. That means out of every 6 Indian athletes, only 1 is an army athlete. But when it came to winning medals, those 20 army athletes won 16 medals. 8 gold, 7 silver, 1 bronze. That represents a significant 80% medal conversion.

Out of India's total of 39 medals, we are talking about 16 medals won by the athletes from the Indian Army. That means 41% of India's entire medal tally, was won by just the 16% contingent. Coming to gold medals, out of India's 13 gold medals, 8 came from this group of athletes, meaning 61% of the Indian army athletes won a medal. The army sportsmen did not just win medals; they also wrote history.

Other milestones in these Commonwealth Games for India were its first gold medal in Judo, High jump's first silver, para shot put's first gold and silver. In athletics, for the first time in one edition, double medal. In weightlifting, Games record.
