Meghalaya police ANTF become first to use AK-15 ARs
Meghalaya police Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) have become the first Indian users of the AK-15 AR, the most modern version of the AK-47 rifle that entered service over 70 years ago.
A social media post on X showed Meghalaya police ANTF commandos holding AK-15 assault rifles.The Izhevsk based Kalashnikov concern confirmed that they had delivered a batch of AK-15 assault rifles to India for special purpose units in mid-August 2021. Along with the AK-15, India had also ordered 70,000 AK-103 assault rifles for the Indian Air Force under the emergency procurement of Rs 300 crores.
The AK-15 assault rifle was developed as part of the Ratnik soldier program. AK-15 fires the 7.62x39mm round and has a range of 350m at point blank range. It has two firing modes, single shot and automatic and fires at a rate of 700 rounds per minute.The rifle has picatinny rails on the dust cover and on the handguard which is essential for mounting optics and laser lights on the rifle and has a magazine capacity of 30 rounds. AK-15 comes with a foldable and adjustable buttstock.
