1. Rajnath Singh to Visit Sri Lanka for 3-Day Official Visit

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Sri Lanka from September 8 to 10. He is expected to hold talks with Sri Lankan leadership on defence and bilateral issues. Singh will also interact with the Indian diaspora in Colombo. A high-level delegation from the Defence and External Affairs ministries will accompany him.

2. India Joins US-led Initiative on Next Generation 6G Networks

India has joined the United States and 24 other countries in an international initiative to shape the development of next-generation 6G networks. The initiative aims to promote secure networks, technological innovation and competitiveness. The move follows talks between India’s MoS for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada and US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.

3. Defence Acquisition Council Clears ₹1.10 Lakh Crore Procurement Proposals

The Defence Acquisition Council has given in-principle approval to defence procurement proposals worth around ₹1.10 lakh crore. The proposals cover requirements of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. Around 98 percent of the procurement is expected to be sourced from Indian industry, according to the Defence Ministry.

4. CDS General Raja Subramani Warns That Modern Warfare Has No Safe Zone

Chief of Defence Staff General NS Raja Subramani has warned that modern warfare can extend far beyond traditional battlefields. Speaking at Aaj Tak’s Suraksha Sabha, he said India needs stronger multi-domain capabilities to deal with emerging threats. He also stressed the need for resilience and greater self-reliance in defence.

5. Iran Warns of Gulf Energy Strikes if US Attacks Its Assets

Iran has warned that further US attacks on its assets could trigger retaliation against energy infrastructure in the Gulf. Iranian officials have also warned that US oil and gas interests could be targeted. Tehran is reportedly considering a restricted Gulf zone and a new shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz. Crude oil prices have risen to around $97 per barrel.

6. DRDO Launches SHIELD Programme to Counter Drone Swarms

The Defence Research and Development Organisation has launched the SHIELD programme to develop a high-power microwave system for countering drones. The system will test the impact of intense microwave pulses on drone electronics, sensors and communications. The programme will involve Indian startups and companies and is aimed at strengthening India’s soft kill and electronic warfare capabilities.
