1)  US Ambassador Sergio Gor Visits Ladakh after J&K; Scheduled to meet Dalai Lama

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor is visiting the Indian Union Territory of Ladakh today. He is also scheduled to meet Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama in Leh, Ladakh, tomorrow on August 21. Experts say the visit is significant, ought to China’s claims over the region.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor visited Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, calling it an “important part of India” during his first visit to the Union Territory. He also said the United States would reconsider its travel advisories for the region.

2)  Japan Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi Visits India

Japan’s Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi is on his maiden visit to India. He took part in the India-Japan Defence Ministers Meeting in New Delhi with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as co-chairs for the meeting. Earlier in the day the Japanese Defence Minister laid a wreath at the National War Memorial.

On Wednesday, 19th August 2026, Koizumi held discussions with Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan and Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, and was briefed on the roles, responsibilities and operational capabilities of the Indian Navy. He also inspected the Guard of Honour, laid a wreath at Gaurav Stambh and visited the indigenous warship INS Chennai.

3)  India delivers Medicines and Medical Supplies to Government Hospital in Kabul

Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that India delivered medicines and medical supplies to a government hospital in Kabul.

The MEA said in a social media post, that the assistance reflects India’s continued commitment to supporting the healthcare needs of the friendly people of Afghanistan. The medical supplies are aimed at augmenting healthcare services at the government hospital in Kabul.

4)  Trump Announces New Economic Warfare Campaign on Iran

US President Donald Trump has announced an unprecedented “crushing economic operation” campaign against Iran. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Iran had been given several opportunities to reach a deal with the United States but failed to do so. He warned that Washington will now pursue an unprecedented campaign of economic warfare and isolation against Tehran, while countries supporting Iran will also face tremendous economic consequences.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi dismissed US President Donald Trump’s newly announced sanctions campaign calling it Trump’s attempts to divert attention from domestic US issues.

5) Indian Cabinet Minister’s Delegation Visits Singapore PM Lawrence Wong

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, and MoS for Electronics & IT Jitin Prasada met the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lawrence Wong, today and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

The Delegation was led by India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The Finance Ministry said in a post on X, "The leaders discussed the progress made in implementing the Roadmap for the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across economic cooperation, digitalisation, connectivity, skills development and sustainability."
