1. PM Modi Arrives in Bishkek for SCO Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on Sunday to participate in the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Leadership Summit. The Summit will be held from 31st Aug to 1st Sept. He was received by Kyrgyz Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Adylbek Kasymaliev at the airport. The summit brings together 10 member states, 15 partner countries and two observer states to discuss regional and global issues and advance cooperation among participating nations.

2. India, Uzbekistan Target  $5 Billion in Bilateral Trade

India and Uzbekistan have elevated their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent. The two sides agreed to target bilateral trade of over $5 billion by 2030 while expanding cooperation in infrastructure, digital public infrastructure, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, energy and space. The countries also agreed to improve market access, connectivity and banking and payment linkages.

3. Russia Responds to India’s Bid for Five More S-400 Squadrons

Russia has submitted a detailed proposal in response to India’s tender for five additional S-400 air defence squadrons for the Indian Air Force, in a deal reportedly valued at over ₹50,000 crore. Four squadrons from India’s earlier 2018 contract are already operational, with the fifth expected to be delivered by November 2026. The proposed acquisition would further strengthen India’s long range air defence network and enhance its ability to detect and engage aerial threats.

4. Tri-Services Future Warfare Course Concludes in Delhi

The fourth edition of the Tri-Services Future Warfare Course concluded in New Delhi after four weeks of professional military education and deliberations on the changing character of warfare. Conducted under the Integrated Defence Staff and coordinated by the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies, the course brought together officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force, along with representatives from government, academia, industry and strategic think tanks. The programme examined emerging technologies and trends shaping future military operations.

5. India, Kuwait Strengthen Defence Cooperation

India and Kuwait held the inaugural meeting of their Joint Defence Committee in New Delhi on August 28, agreeing to expand bilateral defence cooperation across training, military exercises, military medicine, staff talks, defence industry and research and development. The meeting marks an important step in implementing the objectives of the India-Kuwait Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation, signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kuwait in December 2024.
