1. IAF Chief Flags Pakistan-China Fifth-Generation Fighter Cooperation
Air Chief Marshal AP Singh flagged Pakistan’s cooperation with China on a fifth-generation fighter as a concern for India. Speaking at the annual press conference, ahead of the Air Force Day, he also said the Indian Air Force needs to induct around 36 to 40 fighter aircraft annually for the next few years to address gaps in its combat fleet, while highlighting delays in aircraft production and induction.
2. UAE Seeks Death Penalty for Flydubai Co-Pilot in Cockpit Attack
UAE prosecutors described the September 30 Flydubai cockpit stabbing as a terrorist attack and are seeking the death penalty for Omani co-pilot Hamam Al-Hammami. The co-pilot allegedly stabbed Indian captain Smit Machchhar during the Dubai-Tel Aviv flight and attempted to interfere with the aircraft, before passengers and crew restrained him. Australian authorities are also investigating his links to the country, where he had previously studied.
3. India Says It Has Moved From Advocacy to Resolution on Ukraine War
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said India has moved beyond advocacy towards working for a resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Speaking at the Munich Leaders Meeting in New Delhi, he also called for greater cooperation among middle and emerging powers on connectivity, supply chains and defence.
4. India’s Akash Air Defence System Reaches Turkmenistan
India's indigenous Akash air defence missile system has reached Turkmenistan. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh had confirmed the Akash system's export to Turkmenistan on 01 October. The system has become one of India’s major indigenous defence exports as New Delhi expands defence cooperation with foreign partners.
5. Rajnath Singh to Lay Foundation for Shakti Engine Facilities
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to visit HAL’s facility at Sunabeda in Odisha on October 6 to lay the foundation stone for new infrastructure linked to the Shakti engine. The facilities are part of India’s efforts to expand domestic aerospace and defence manufacturing capabilities.
6. Jaishankar Meets US Indo-Pacific Commander
External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar met US Indo-Pacific Command chief Admiral Samuel J Paparo on October 4 and discussed the India-US security partnership, maritime security and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
